Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 6:07PM A wonderful story comes to us from a post on TorrentFreak by Ernesto lettings us know of the launch of a coalition of P2P sites such as TorrentFreak, The Pirate Bay and isoHunt, among others, to help independent filmmakers distribute their movies.
From the Ernesto's post:
"most independent musicians and filmmakers see these new technologies as the ideal tool to publish their work at no cost, and reach an audience much larger than they could ever reach offline."
Jamie King, director of "Steal This Film", is the founder of this project, called VODO. This effort has been announced alongside the debut of the first title the coalition will be promoting, "Us Now".
From the announcement:
It tells the stories of the online networks whose self-organizing structures promise to change the fabric of government forever. Needless to say this is an ideal debut film with obvious connections to the file-sharing community."
An interesting aspect of this model, aside from the use of P2P technology to distribute and promote the film, but that the downloaders can donate to the movie's creator. VODO is expected to roll-out a series of revenue offerings for creators, while still maintaining its free sharing core.
This is what technology and innovative models are good for, empowering creators to gain audiences.
